Hi friends! Thanks for stopping by and checking out my work. I’m Elana Hopman, owner of Lana’s Lettering. Since you’re here, I know we’ve got something major in common: a deep appreciation and love for the old-fashioned art of calligraphy and elegant handwriting.
In 2009, when color-coded spreadsheets at my office job stopped being a sufficient creative outlet, I took my first calligraphy class and fell in love with the calming, meditative art of this writing style. Soon enough, what began as a hobby became a business: I officially launched Lana’s Lettering in 2016.
When you hire me, you get someone who is passionate, hard-working, and probably over-excited about your project. That’s because I love what I do: Lettering demands perfection and artistry, and for a type-A creative like me, it’s the perfect combination. There is no satisfaction quite like a stack of flawlessly addressed envelopes, and being part of people’s big moments — even in a behind-the-scenes way — is intensely gratifying. I’ve worked on weddings from New York to California, Texas to Michigan. It’s not only nuptials that calls for one-of-a-kind, personalized lettering: I’ve also created signs and mailings for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, and other special occasions, as well as lettered poems and framed prints.
After ten years in New York City, where I attended college, met my husband, and worked in digital content strategy, I moved back to my home state of Michigan, where I live with my two cats, a dog, a husband, and a toddler. When I’m not spending time with my family, you’ll find me reading a magazine (paper, of course!), sipping on an iced latte or a glass of prosecco, and obsessing over Michigan’s first Container Store.
